Whoever called the game of Truth or Dare ‘harmless’ was deluding themselves. It’s one of the most popular party games, sure – but it’s rarely simple or innocuous – at least every game I’ve witnessed or participated in. The truth can be just as damaging as a crazy dare, sometimes. It just depends on who you’re playing with, how sadistic they are, and what sort of skeletons everyone keeps in their closets. 

This likely isn’t going to be ‘the best movie ever,’ but it looks like it will be captivating in a Final Destination (2000) sort of way. You know what has to be coming but can’t look away. The cast looks interesting and I like the twist that reminds me of  It Follows (2014), Sure there's not a visible monster stalking the game participants - but that smile thing is creepy as hell and the supernatural curse that can be 'passed along' element is pretty horrifying on its own. 

But seriously, if you're looking for some Friday the 13th appropriate fun, this should be an entertaining choice.

If I were to sum up my impression of this movie based on the trailer in one word, it would be ‘intense.’

This isn’t exactly the typical film one would expect to be released on Friday the 13^th, and yet it’s entirely appropriate to the darker connotations of the date. Obviously, kidnapping is a no-no; but the question burns – what did this lady do to this guy to spark off such a single-minded dedication to revenge-interrogation?

Luke Evans (Immortals, Furious 7, Beauty and the Beast) has a rather impressive screen presence – and also the ability to portray some seriously scary badass characters. His sociopathic character in No One Lives (2012) gave me the heebie-jeebies. I’m more inclined, however, to call this one as somewhere close to the emotional motivation of his character in Dracula Untold (2014) – wrongs to a loved one sparking a bit of a breakdown that causes impaired moral judgement. What. Did. That. Lady. DO??

My burning curiosity demands that I watch this one to find out. It looks to be worth the cost of the ticket, so it should be a win-win.

This movie seems to be taking a page from the ‘tourists in the wrong place at the wrong time running afoul of the local bad people’ recipe; and at the same time highlighting a current and relevant societal problem of human trafficking. You’ve got to think that anyone involved with that is seriously bad news – perhaps even more so than your typical drug traffickers. Drugs don’t have the potential of escaping and tipping off the police.

Paula Patton (Precious, 2 Guns, Warcraft: The Beginning) and Omar Epps (Against the Ropes, House, Almost Christmas) show some good screen chemistry in the trailer’s scene snippits. It will be interesting to see him in more of an action-heavy and emotionally fraught performance.  Additionally, I am wondering what William Fichtner's (Drive Angry, The Homesman, 12 Strong) role is here. He's had plenty of serious roles, but I think I enjoy those that have his particular delivery of dry humor the most. We'll see!

I’ll be honest. I am not the biggest fan of Amy Schumer (Delocated, Trainwreck, Snatched), but I believe in giving credit where it’s due. She has a unique voice in the comedy world and is living testament that curvy girls can make it in an industry that tends to showcase a decidedly different aesthetic.

This movie deals with something close to my heart – self-esteem, body positivity, and a bit of manifest destiny. I know I’ve struggled with my own self-image for a long time. It’s a common issue in this day and age. I like the twist on the Shallow Hal (2001) type story – a change in mental perspective can literally make all the difference in the world.

The movie looks funny, endearing, and is sharing a positive message – definitely worth a shot in my book.

The trailer left me with a sense of dread, and yet a longing to know more. It’s the irresistible draw to figure out what’s behind the closed door. Of course, some doors shouldn’t be opened.

I'm not entirely sure what to make of this film, and yet at the same time it looks heartwarming and endearing. The whole nation was fired up with united heartache and outrage following 9/11. So many wanted to do something that would have an impact, and yet didn't have the means to follow through. This movie seems to be about a young man that sticks firm to his belief that he should make a difference in the world and help right the wrongs of that infamous day. Of course, there's also undertones of family and friendship. I'm interested in seeing where this movie goes.

The production team made a rather successful shell-game with the trailer for this movie.  While Charlie Heaton (Urban & the Shed Crew, As You Are, Shut In) is the cast member I most recognize, considering my obsession with Stranger Things (2016-), the collection of youngsters playing the Marrowbone children were well put together.

This month's collection of movies have been playing havoc with my sense of curiosity. This is another one that doled out so little in the trailer that it left me with a near burning need to figure out what in the world is going on. There's a tunnel? What in the world was in the sheet?! What happened to these kids' parents?

It looks like this movie plays to those strengths as he explores the 'outside world' and life outside his giant futuristic bubble. It should be fun!

All signs point to this movie as a freaky head-trip. That being said, I think I'm more curious about what's going on here than in any of the others on this list which are poking at my sense of curiosity.

I swear I actually tilted my head to the side a little with a 'huh?' expression at a few points during the trailers. I have to say that if the film has the level of anticipation buildup that the preview alluded to, this might just be an edge-of-the seat situation. I am holding hope that something crazy-looking (in a bad way) doesn't spoil the intensity of the suspenseful lead-in.

I can't imagine the feeling of learning that the government has decided that your rights as a property owner just don't count because your home is in the way of progress. Who gets to determine the absolute necessity of such progress? Eminent domain is a scary thing. I salute the brave lady who is portrayed in this movie based on her true story. Her little pink house is also adorable. When I was little and pink was still my favorite color, I would have absolutely flipped over it. I was determined that my future home would be that color. My inner child approves of that aspect of this movie, so there's also that.

I was surprised to learn that this Funimation movie is based out of China. I was expecting it to be a fresh offering from Studio Ghibli or another of the other leading Japanese anime studios. Regardless, a talented group has put this film together.

The story is heartwarming and profound for its theme of sacrifice and such and the animation is gorgeous. I can't wait to watch this one with my daughter, who is also an anime fan.

One of my first reactions to this trailer was "holy crap." This is certainly Joaquin Phoenix (We Own the Night, Her, Irrational Man) like I've never seen him before (and no, it's not just the facial hair.) His screen presence always has intensity, but this movie looks like it might give a new meaning to the word as it winds through its twists and turns.

This is definitely a hero (maybe an anti-hero?) that I can definitely get behind. With the ever-underlying presence of human trafficking in society and its horrible tendency to prey on young girls; one would hope that there are those with such single-minded determination in finding those that have been stolen away into such a life. I can't wait to peel back all the layers on this plot.

I expect absolute hilarity to ensue here. I remember watching the 1987 movie and it was great. The good news is that this reboot didn't actually bring up any latent nerd-rage about recycled ideas. Honestly, I haven't seen the original since roughly the timeframe it was released in; so I'm a bit fuzzy on those details.

This story? It's less manifest destiny & more manifest karma. I might need to bring some tissues with me because I have a feeling I'll be laughing that hard.

Can't we all just get along?

That's a question that burned into my brain and echoes forward from the timeperiod this movie is set in. I remember watching events surrounding what happened to Rodney King on TV - live. This was something that was burned into the social consciousness then - and the issues it shone a spotlight on are still relevant today.

The images of the LA Riots following that fateful verdict filled my screen with a terrifying look at real-world mob-mentality gone awry. If it was scary to watch from a distance, I can only imagine the terror of living through it - or trying to keep my family safe through something like that.

This movie promises to be powerful.

OK, I'm going to have a fangirl moment here.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson (The Game Plan, Snitch, Moana), Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Sabotage, Smurfs: The Lost Village),  and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Red Dawn, Desierto, The Walking Dead) are all in the same movie.

Now that I've stopped having heart palpitations, I can get down to the brass tacks.

Rampage looks like a lot of fun. When thinking larger-than-life, this video game adaptation takes that quite literally. This is one of those movies that you just want to take on entertainment value alone. I honestly wouldn't mind if it follows the game's plot or not, but to be fair I haven't played it. This seems to be something that's more about the action and visuals than substance - but hey, I could be wrong there. The potential does exist for there to be some deeper nuances to the story. I'll be pleasantly surprised if that's the case, but it's still worth the price for gargantuan critter mayhem on a giant screen.

The story looks original and has a good message. This definitely looks like a good one if you want to break away from the industry's recycled-ideas-fest. I love the word-play in the movie's name, too. I can't wait for my teen to roll her eyes at me when I point it out to her, too.

I have been dying to see this movie from the moment I saw its first teaser trailer. It looks absolutely terrifying. It's a good thing it's just a movie!

That being said, I think this might just break new ground in the horror genre and I can't wait. This one will definitely be worth the ticket price to see on the big screen for greater impact.
