Star Wars is a huge franchise with an even bigger following.
Is it any wonder that Star Wars: Episode VII information is being very
carefully guarded? Many fans would do anything to get their hands on any tidbit
available. Secrecy simply heightens the desire. Until now, the only information
that has been confirmed is that Episode VII will hit theaters December 2015 and
that it will take place 35 years after the events of Episode 6, Return of the
Jedi. Now, we have one more confirmed tidbit: filming has begun.
The studio began filming in order to get ahead of the demand
and make sure that the movie is done by the release date. It was revealed in an
interview with Disney Studio Chairman Alan Horn, at Loyola Marymount University School of Film and Television, however, that the cast has yet to be completed. Horn
remained calm about being tight-lipped about specifics. In respect to a request
for more information, he adopted Yoda’s all-too-familiar voice and said, “Patience,
you must have.” That means rumors are all we have. Adam Driver, Lupita Nyong’o
and several of the original Star Wars cast members, Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill,
Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels, are all among those
rumored to be involved in Episode VII.
Horn did confirm something else about the newest episode of
Star Wars. He confirmed that there had been some issues with the screen play. The
script was supposed to be written by Michael Arndt’s, the writer of Toy Story
3. For an unknown reason, the script changed hands after the first draft and
was reworked by J.J. Abrams, director/producer of Star Wars: Episode VII, and
Lawrence Kasdan, writer of Star Wars: Episode V and Star Wars: Episode VI.
Whatever the issue was, Horn seems convinced that the script is finally up to
par.
For some fans it’s still a little upsetting that George
Lucas won’t be involved in the creation of the next Star Wars trilogy. When
Lucasfilm was bought by Disney, Lucas was quoted as saying, “It’s now time for
me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed
that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up
the transition during my lifetime.”
Rumored to revolve around the children of Han Solo and
Princess Leia; Star Wars: Episode VII is finally beginning its filming journey.
Hopefully, we will learn more about the movie in the upcoming months.
